We are an independent, fifth generation family run business dedicated to serving the communities of Brighton, Hove, Portslade, Patcham, Southwick, Lancing, Shoreham, Worthing and surrounding areas in Sussex with a professional, respectful and personal funeral service.
Being a funeral director is not just a job to us, it’s a vocation and we have been supporting the bereaved in our community for over 116 years. Our role is to help guide you through what can be a very difficult time, coping with the extreme emotions that bereavement brings, such as grief, bewilderment, indecision and anger can make organising a funeral a daunting prospect, we will gently and expertly take that stress away from you. On a practical level, we take care of everything you need, from notices in the paper and flowers to the headstone and post funeral arrangements but on a personal level we will also provide a unique aftercare service we have tailored for our families to help assist you in the coming weeks and months after the funeral.

We ensure that everything is taken care of to your exact specifications, from the coffin you select to the music you choose that fits your loved one perfectly, together we will create a fitting and unique tribute that provides you with some comfort on the day of the funeral. All of our services are completely flexible to the needs of you and your family, no matter how simple or complex your wishes are. Our pricing is also very transparent and clear to understand, and we also have options available to you should you wish to portion your payments.

As well as being experts in organising both traditional and modern funerals we have in recent years undertaken the importance of green funerals and have extensive knowledge in this field and we pride ourselves on being able to source the most beautiful pieces for your environmentally friendly funeral should you choose this option.

Customers can choose to visit us at our offices or we can come to your home – whichever is more convenient for you, we are on call 24 hours a day. Our fully equipped office in Hove is conveniently located on Sackville Road and our private chapel of rest means your loved one is never far away.

We first used Bungard in 2018 for my Father-in-Laws funeral and had no hesitation in using them again when my Mother-in-law sadly passed away. From the moment we contacted Richard, he and his team showed great compassion and couldn't do enough to help us through this difficult time. we had a limited time in Brighton to arrange things and Richard bent over backwards to fit us in and carryout everything to our wishes. On the day of the funeral, the whole team were amazing, compassionate, friendly and very professional. I can't recommend them enough. If I could give them mo0re than 5 stars, I would.

October 30, 2025I first came across Bungards when I needed to contact a Funeral Directors in March 2025 after being told that my Grandmother was nearing the end. They were brilliant, explained the process and, for me, most importantly said that they were willing to help, even if we decided to go elsewhere when the time came. Fast forward to September 2025 and I received the call that nobody wants to have - our Grandmother had passed. Zoe was there to help us through the next stages. Zoe was very kind and, from the beginning, metaphorically speaking, held our hands through the process of preparing the funeral. Nothing was too much, Zoe was with us all the way, guiding us as to who we’d like to perform the ceremony, flowers, music, the crematorium, tracing other family’s ashes and more. We couldn’t have wished for a better service from a Funeral Directors.
